Group size 4-4 players
Pitch size 10 by 20 yds

Setup

Groups of four (two of each color) on cones set up as shown in diagram (basically in a Y pattern).  Make sure the inside player is not waiting for the ball but running to meet the pass.

Instructions

  1. player A with ball passes in to teammate (B) and quickly calls one of the two colors (blue or green, assuming those are pinnie colors)
  2. Player B runs to meet the pass, checking shoulder before ball arrives
  3. Player B quickly turns and sends the ball to the correct target based on color called.
  4. Return the ball up to A quickly to repeat Rotate players every 1 min (A->B, B->C, C->D, D->A)

Progressions

  1. Pass to opposite color
  2. Color targets quietly change sides to re-inforce shoulder check
  3. Can add a third cue of “man on” (return pass)

Coaching Emphasis

Check your shoulder. Scanning, quick decision making. Also, run towards your pass (don’t just stand waiting for ball, don’t enter the space too soon).
