Support the Pass Drill

A moving passing drill to promote third man support and well-weighted short passing. Pairs go down the line, using positioned teammates for quick set passes for up-back-through action.

Pitch size 20 by 40+ yd rectangle w/cones on corners;

Setup

Long, narrow rectangle (cones on corners), and three cones in a line in the middle (~5-10 yds apart) - larger space is easier Three players go in the middle (one per cone), and rest of players divide evenly. Run drill with one ball.

Instructions

  1. A pair on one sides start the play and run together, serving up passes to each of the three central teammates on cones
  2. Middle players can choose whether to return the pass or switch sides based on arrival of pass and player positions
  3. When they reach the other side

Progressions

  1. Touch restrictions
  2. Must use third man each time
  3. Must return set pass and then square to third man each time
